UK: 9 of 10 Filipinos applying for UK visas succeed

MANILA, Philippines — Nine of 10 Filipinos who apply for a visa to visit the United Kingdom get approval.

The British Embassy Manila said Monday it has issued over 33,000 tourist visas from January to March this year—23 percent more than the number issued in the same period in 2014.

“You can apply, pay and book an appointment at our Manila and Cebu Visa Application Centres,” the British Embassy said in a statement.

Capital city London has been the top tourist destination in the world in recent years and is projected to see about 18.82 million international visitors this year, a report by MasterCard released last week indicated.

In April, the UK government rolled out the 24-hour visa service in the Philippines, allowing Filipinos to secure visas the day after they submitted their application.

Prime Minister David Cameron said in November 2014 that the Philippines was picked to get the 24-hour visa scheme due to high demand from business and high value travelers.
